Marley
I really should have posted about this sooner, but better late than never right? Last Wednesday I went to a preview screening of Marley, the new documentary chronicling the career of one of the most influential musicians of all time, Bob Marley. The screening was held at the W Hotel London for friends of Island Records, the film itself having been produced by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell who signed Marley to the label in 1972. Directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland/Touching the Void) the film features interviews with everyone from legendary music producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry to Marley's wife and back-up singer Rita and of course The Wailers. There is also plenty of amazing live footage, including his performance at the Smile Jamaica concert shortly after he was shot. Macdonald offers us a very intimate portrait of the star, choosing not to gloss over issues such as the use of marijuana and Marley's infidelity to his wife, as well the stubbornness which lead him to skip medical appointments following a serious foot injury and delayed the revelation of his cancer which was discovered too late, costing him his life at the age of 36. The final segment of the film, which clocks in at a weighty 146minutes in total, focuses on the last year of Marley's life as he attempts to battle his cancer through holistic medicine, and it's certainly emotional and difficult to watch. Whether or not you're particularly familiar with Bob Marley's history and career you will no doubt be moved by the power of this documentary and the positive socio-political messages that Marley spread across the world through his music. The accompanying soundtrack is also worth picking up, featuring some very strong live performances, rare tracks and remixes.

T. Lipop AW12
As with last season I once again did show music for T. Lipop, remixing a bit of Lil Wayne, editing some Jay-Z/Kanye action and splicing together bits of Matthew Dear and Shabazz Palaces with my favorite track from the new Sleigh Bells album for the finale. Tom's AW12 collection was simply fantastic, featuring some particularly nice blazers, shirts and jackets. Check out a front row video and some backstage photos:

Backstage and Music at Lako Bukia AW12

LFW Day 2: Lako Bukia
I kicked off the second day of LFW with the Lako Bukia SS12 show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout for which I did the soundtrack. I created an original bespoke remix of Arcade Fire's The Suburbs (Continued) which I mixed in with Nicolas Jaar's exquisite remix of Azari & III and Caribou's remix of Radiohead. For the finale I chose the upbeat synth-pop sound of Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) by Arcade Fire to contrast with the minimal soundtrack of the main show.
Lako's delicate and beautiful collection mixed Asian-influenced style and prints with a contemporary minimal design to flattering and striking effect, the flowing chiffon dresses were complimented by structured uniform pieces that retained a soft element in their boldness with a red, black and white color palette. Gorgeous.

Check out a video of the show below. I did the official soundtrack for the catwalk, including an original remix of Psycho Killer by Talking Heads and you can stream the soundtrack below the YouTube video and there's also a photo of me wearing my favorite leather jacket from the collection!

Ingrid Vlasov AW 11/12
I was chosen to do the soundtrack for Romanian designer Ingrid Vlasov's AW 11/12 show for Paris Fashion week. The show took place at the Westin Paris, Vendome, on Tuesday the 8th of March. Vlasov recently garnered an influx of attention when Lady Gaga was photographed wearing the finale dress from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Below you can see a video of the AW 11/12 show with my soundtrack and a backstage video from the day, as well as a photo of Lady Gaga wearing the aforementioned dress. For more information and to view previous collections head over to the official Ingrid Vlasov website.
